Marathi children will lag behind in Maharashtra if fail to learn a third language: Education Department

If a third language (Hindi) is not taught in Marathi and English medium schools from class 1 like in other medium schools, Marathi children in Maharashtra will fall behind. The Department of Education has also informed that by teaching a third language to children at a very simple level, students will be able to acquire another skill and it will have a positive impact on their intellectual development.As per the guidelines set out in the assessment concept of the Academic Bank of Credit, which will be implemented across the country in the future, a student will be assessed on how many subjects or skills they have learned and how much time they have devoted to them. This will allow the student to get points for that education. Therefore, students in Marathi and English medium schools will not get full credit points for a subject for classes 1 to 5 because they do not learn a third language. As a result, the Education Department has informed through a press release that due to the concept of 'Academic Bank of Credit', Marathi children in Maharashtra will lag behind students of other mediums.Also Read: Mumbai University Under Fire as Law Students Fail Without Exams In other medium schools, Marathi language is taught at a very simple level from the first grade, while in Marathi and English medium schools, children are taught a third language from the first grade at the same level, allowing them to acquire another skill. The Department of Education has clarified that this will have a positive impact on their intellectual development.Since Hindi is a language that is used in daily life in Maharashtra, it will be ensured that children in Maharashtra will not be affected by this language academically. It has also been clarified that parents who choose a language other than Hindi will be given proper guidance through teachers. The aim is to avoid any additional stress on the students. Also, in many Zilla Parishad schools, teachers themselves teach various foreign languages to their students at the primary level.
