Mumbai: Padwa Turns Tragic, Two Killed in Separate Accidents

On Wednesday, the day of Diwali, various accidents took place at five places in Mumbai. Eight people were injured and two died in these accidents. A part of a building in Girgaum collapsed. Fire broke out in Borivali, Malad and Byculla. One person was washed away on the beach in Malad. A fire broke out in Nalanda Housing Society in Gorai area of Borivali West around 11.30 am on Wednesday. The fire broke out in a hut in the Baithi Chawl. Decorative materials, wooden items, and clothes were burnt to ashes. The fire also spread to a one-story building next door. The fire brigade managed to extinguish the fire around 2 pm. In this incident, two men were safely evacuated by the fire brigade from the first floor. While a woman was trapped in the bathroom on the first floor. Pooja Vinaychandra Parekh (37) suffered 50 percent burns and was declared dead by doctors after being taken to the hospital.
Part of MHADA building collapses in Girgaum
The second accident occurred in the Chirabazar area of Girgaum around 6.15 am. Atmaraman on Jagannath Shankarshet Marg is an old MHADA building, and the kitchen part of a room on the first floor of this building collapsed. Thakarji Gala (75) and Gunwanti Gala (71) were injured in this. Of them, Gunwanti has been admitted to Bhatia Hospital on Grant Road and her condition is stable.
Fire breaks out in seven-storey building in Malad
A fire broke out in the Bhoomi Classic building in the Link Road area of Malad West at 5 am. The fire broke out in a closed apartment on the sixth floor of the seven-story building, located near Inorbit Mall. The fire spread and engulfed all four apartments on the seventh floor. The electrical system, electrical conduits, household goods, clothes, tables, chairs, curtains, air conditioners, doors, windows, etc. of the closed house on the second floor were destroyed in the fire. A twenty-four-year-old youth was injured in the accident.
Part of building collapses in Byculla
A portion of a one-storey building in Bhanushala, Byculla area, collapsed. The incident took place at 12.45 pm. Seven people were injured in the accident. The injured have been admitted to the municipal Nair Hospital and the private Bhatia Hospital. The condition of Ghulam Rasool (24) and Mohammad Sayyed (59) is stable. Five people were treated and sent home.
One person washed away on Aksa beach
One of the four people who went swimming in Aksa beach in Malad West got washed away on Wednesday around 5 pm. The four had gone swimming on the beach in front of J. J. Nursing Home, INS Hamla Gate. Three of the four were safely rescued. The search for one was going on till late evening.
