BJP might follow Gujarat model of reshuffling Cabinet in Maharashtra

After the Gujarat cabinet reshuffle, all eyes are now on Maharashtra. Sources in the Mahayuti said that a plan has been prepared to review the performance of ministers in the next one year. Those whose performance is not satisfactory may be removed from the cabinet.

A senior minister and BJP leader from Maharashtra confirmed this. He told Mid Day on condition of anonymity, “The government has not even completed a year yet. We will give the ministers enough time to work. Ideally, there should be a review after two to two and a half years. Those who fail to perform as per the set standards will be dealt with."

Similar reshuffles were made in Gujarat. There were 21 new ministers, 12 of whom were first-time MLAs. The BJP, known for its regular reshuffles, seems ready to implement the “Gujarat model” in Maharashtra as well.

Meanwhile, some ministers in the Mahayuti, especially Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party and Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, have come under fire for their controversial statements and behavior.

A total of 39 ministers were sworn in in Maharashtra in 2024. Out of them, 33 were cabinet ministers and 6 were ministers of state. The BJP has the highest number of ministers with 19, followed by 11 from Shinde's Shiv Sena and 9 from Ajit Pawar's NCP. Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar are leading the government under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
