Trupti Bhoir about her film Paro making it to the Oscars Reminder List
Producer and actor Trupti Bhoir’s Paro — The Untold Story of Bride Slavery has made it to the Oscars Reminder List, ahead of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announcing its nominations on January 22. For Bhoir, it’s an important moment as her independent film that released on January 10 in the US gains international attention.
“Reaching the Reminder List is monumental for a film like Paro. For our team, simply being seen feels like a victory, especially for every woman whose story we have carried on our shoulders,” says Bhoir, who fronts director Gajendra Vitthal Ahire’s drama that hopes to make it to the Best Picture list.
Paro tells the story of its protagonist, who is sold to three men over the years. Bhoir says, “When I first learned that bride slavery was happening not only in India but also in other countries, I was shaken to my core. Paro [resulted from] years of hearing stories that broke me.”
