Singapore gets `Zubeen Garg Island` on Google Maps amid his death probe

Assam’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg left the state the morning after his sudden and tragic passing away in Singapore on September 19. He reportedly died in a scuba diving incident, however, the investigations are currently underway into his death case. Amid the ongoing investigations, the island in Singapore where the singer tragically passed away has been renamed `Zubeen Garg Island` on Google Maps.

Zubeen was reportedly attending the North East India Festival in Singapore, where he went swimming off St. John’s Island during a yacht outing. According to reports, he fell victim to a fatal accident while scuba diving, which led to his untimely death. Despite being rushed to Singapore General Hospital, he could not be revived. The incident shocked everyone in India and beyond, leading to protests, FIRs, and a high-profile investigation.

Now, the island appears as Zubeen Garg Island as a tribute to the singer on Google Maps. The renaming has struck an emotional chord with fans across the globe, who flooded social media with screenshots, messages, and tributes. 

The move also underlines the singer’s far-reaching influence, ensuring that his legacy remains alive not just in Assam but across international shores.

Zubeen Garg`s death probe

The 52-year-old Assamese music icon died on September 19 following a drowning accident in Singapore. His mortal remains were first flown to Delhi and later transported to Guwahati on Sunday morning by a commercial flight. 

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has extended the autopsy report of late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg to the High Commission of India.

According to a statement issued by the police, a copy of the autopsy report, along with their preliminary findings on his passing, has been handed over to the Indian authorities upon their request.

Police investigations are currently underway in the matter, while the public has been advised to refrain from sharing any videos or images related to the matter.

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Assam police on Thursday arrested Zubeen Garg`s co-musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and co-singer Amritprava Mahanta, taking the total arrests in the case to four.
