Mumbai To Get 26th Ward Office Ahead of Elections; Subway, ICU, Schools, Civic Works Approved for Western Suburbs
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will set up its 26th ward office before the upcoming civic elections. The K-North ward, which covers Marol and Jogeshwari East, will become operational next month. The new K-North office is located in a two-storey building that was earlier a BMC market.
The building was formally opened last year by Eknath Shinde, who was the chief minister at that time, before the state assembly elections. It will now function as the official ward office. This comes after the P-East ward was opened last year in response to the growing population in the western suburbs.
The decision was made in a meeting chaired by Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani and attended by Mumbai North West MP Ravindra Waikar. The session focused on long-pending civic and infrastructure issues in the constituency. More than 30 matters about the North West ward were discussed in detail.
Other important decisions include:
1. A four-lane subway will come up at the junction of Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) and the Metro cinema.
2. A 12-bed intensive care unit will be set up at Cooper Hospital’s Trauma Care Centre.
3. Municipal schools will start introducing CBSE classes in phases.
4. The stormwater drain near Oberoi Mall in Goregaon will be expanded to reduce flooding during the monsoon.
5. Shopkeepers at the Topiwala municipal market will be given possession of their shops by June 2026.
6. A sewage treatment plant near Versova Creek will be constructed.
7. A bridge connecting Madh and Marve has also been approved.
