Mumbai school teacher sexually assaults 5 students of grade 6 students; held
A school teacher in Mumbai has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting five minor students.
The incident came to light after a sixth grade student from a Dadar school told her parents about being touched inappropriately by math teacher.
Later, a case was registered against the teacher, and it was found that the teacher had assaulted other students also from the same class, the police said.
According to the police, on Saturday, December 13, the teacher had touched a Class 6 student inappropriately, asked her to sit on his lap and also showed her some obscene photos and videos. After returning home, the girl shared the incident with her parents, prompting them to approach the police. He was arrested on Monday, December 15.
Following this, a case was registered against him under Sections 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 8 (punishment for sexual assault), 9 (aggravated sexual assault), 10 (punishment for aggravated sexual assault) and 12 (punishment for sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The teacher faces charges under the POCSO Act and other laws, with police discovering that four more classmates had similar experiences.
Officials have further asked other teachers of the school to report if any more students open up about any similar incidents they had faced with the accused teacher.
The focus is on making sure all students feel safe at school as the investigation continues.
