Mumbai: BMC launches weekend, fast-track marriage registration services from September 21

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has now started the facility of marriage registration on both Saturdays and Sundays.
This service has been launched under the name 'Weekend Marriage Registration Service'. In addition, a 'Fast-track Marriage Registration Service' will also be available from Monday to Friday. Couples availing both these services will be issued a marriage certificate on the day of registration.
What will be the benefits?
Many couples who are employed or doing business had to take a day off on a working day to register their marriage. To remove this inconvenience, the BMC has taken this important decision. This will make the process of marriage registration easier and faster.
As per the directions of BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, this initiative has been launched to ease administrative work. The Public Health Department has started this service under the guidance of Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs) and as per the directions of Deputy Commissioner (Public Health) Sharad Ukde.

Need for the New Services
According to Deputy Commissioner (Public Health) Sharad Ughade, the BMC registers around 30,000 to 35,000 marriages annually. However, due to time constraints, many couples fail to complete the registration process, despite the marriage certificate being a vital document for various official purposes.
The administration hopes that these new services will help increase the number of timely registrations by offering more flexibility.
Note: These services will not be available on public holidays.
