Manoj Jarange Patil Demands OBC Quota for Marathas, Cites Marathwada Gazette

The Marathwada Gazetteer (1967) is an important historical document for Maratha reservation. It provides detailed information about the social, economic, educational and administrative condition of Marathwada at that time. The gazetteer mentions the Marathas of Marathwada as Kunbi. It is said that the Maratha community was extremely backward in terms of educational, economic and social status.
According to related reports, most of the people of the Maratha community depended on agriculture, labour, and other low-level occupations. Some members of the cabinet subcommittee have strongly insisted that OBC certificates should be distributed in Marathwada based on that information.
Manoj Jarange Patil has started a hunger strike to death at Azad Maidan demanding reservation for the Maratha community from OBCs. He has expressed his determination to get reservation from OBCs under any circumstances. Therefore, the government is in a big dilemma in this matter. Meetings are being held continuously by the ministerial committee to get legal advice.
Jarange Patil has demanded immediate implementation of the Hyderabad and Satara Gazettes. He has shown his readiness to give some time to implement the Aundh and Mumbai gazettes. There is clear evidence regarding Kunbi in the Marathwada gazette, so there will be no time at all for its implementation, Jarange has clarified.

It is said that this issue was also discussed in detail in the ministerial sub-committee meeting. In this, some ministers insisted on the immediate implementation of the Marathwada Gazetteer. It was the responsibility of the then government to maintain the records of the Kunbi people of this period. If they have not been maintained, there is no point in blaming the people of today. Therefore, it was said that the concerned ministers have demanded that Kunbi certificates be distributed to all the records that have been received.
