`I quietly cried in my car`: Kangana Ranaut on Masaba Gupta saree incident
Actor and politician Kangana Ranaut recently shared a deeply emotional incident involving designer Masaba Gupta that left her feeling hurt and humiliated. Recalling the episode on social media, Kangana spoke about being asked not to tag the designer after wearing one of her sarees during a visit to the Ram Janmabhoomi site.

Kangana revealed that the incident took place when she was travelling from Lucknow to Ayodhya and had chosen to wear a saree designed by Masaba for the spiritual visit. “One instance I will never forget is when I was wearing Masaba Gupta’s saree for Ram Janmabhoomi and she told the stylist that I can’t go to Ram Janmabhoomi in her saree,” Kangana wrote, explaining that she was already on the way and could not change her outfit.
According to Kangana, the situation became more uncomfortable when her stylist was allegedly asked not to tag Masaba or her label while posting pictures. She said the stylist felt so embarrassed by the request that she ended up paying for the saree herself. “I felt so humiliated and degraded that I quietly cried in my car,” Kangana admitted, adding that the moment stayed with her long after.
Kangana Ranaut makes a shocking revelation
Expressing her disbelief, Kangana questioned the silence around the outfit. “Designers usually get very excited when their brands are seen on celebrities. Can someone explain why she wouldn’t use those images or why the stylist was asked not to tag her?” she asked, suggesting that the incident reflected deeper bias within the industry.
Kangana also spoke about her earlier bond with Masaba, highlighting how personal the episode felt to her. “I have never performed at my own sister’s wedding, but 2016 was also the year when I performed at Masaba Gupta’s wedding,” she recalled, pointing out how things have changed over the years.
The actress said the experience made her reflect on the selective support she receives despite her stature and visibility. She added that such moments expose uncomfortable truths about acceptance and exclusion in the worlds of fashion and cinema.
Kangana’s candid account has sparked widespread discussion online, with many weighing in on the intersection of fashion, personal beliefs and professional boundaries. Known for speaking her mind, Kangana once again made headlines by sharing an emotional experience that, according to her, revealed the cost of standing by one’s identity in a highly opinionated industry.
