DYK: Rajinikanth and Hrithik Roshan shared screen in 1986 film Bhagwaan Dada

As War 2 and Coolie gear up for an all-time high clash at the box office this Independence Day, fans and critics alike can`t wait to see how the clash turns out. The anticipation among the fans to watch their favourite stars on the big screen is also increasing. Amid the excitement, fans have dug up an old nostalgic video of Hrithik Roshan sharing screen with superstar Rajinikanth 39 years ago.
Rajinikanth and Hrithik shared the screen
Hrithik appeared as a child artist alongside Rajinikanth in the 1986 film Bhagwaan Dada. In the film, Rajinikanth played the titular character, who raises Govinda, played by a young Hrithik, after he is abandoned by his mother, Shanti.
Interestingly, 39 years later, the two prolific actors are set to appear again on the big screens, although not in the same film, but on the same release date. Hrithik will headline War 2 while Rajinikanth features in Coolie. Both the anticipated films are scheduled to hit theatres on August 14. This marks one of the rare clashes which has fans reminiscing about their past on-screen connection.
Coolie vs War 2
War 2 is directed by Ayan Mukerji, and stars Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani in lead roles. Sequel to the 2019 film, War 2 marks Jr NTR`s Hindi debut. The two-hour, 52-minute-long film opened to advance booking recently.
On the other hand, Coolie is helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and features an ensemble cast of stars like Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Aamir Khan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Shruti Haasan.
Trade expert Taran Adarsh recently told NDTV, "Coolie has clearly taken a big, big lead across the globe. Talk about international sales, domestic sales, the margin is huge. There`s no comparison as such. They are not even fighting neck-to-neck."
Adarsh claims that the advance collection of War 2 does not look promising at the moment. "War 2 in the Hindi sector has not shown the sales that one would expect from an event film. All eyes are on the Telugu bookings, which will be opened today. Hopefully, the Telugu numbers would make the gap narrower for the Hrithik Roshan film," he shares.
Meanwhile, as per reports, the advance bookings of Coolie have clocked in Rs 19.79 crore (gross) in India so far, while Ayan Mukerji`s spy thriller has earned Rs 4.71 crore (gross).
