Christian group wants Sidharth and Janhvi`s romantic church scene removed

While the trailer of Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor`s upcoming film, Param Sundari, has created waves among fans, leaving many impressed, members of the Christian community have raised objections against a specific scene from the trailer. The scene in question features the actors flirting inside a church. The group, Watchdog Foundation, has written to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the Mumbai Police, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, and the Maharashtra government in this regard. They have also demanded the removal of the scene from the film and promotional videos.

Christian group objects to romance scene in church

Advocate Godfrey Pimenta of the Watchdog Foundation expressed that the tendency to generate a controversy with malicious intent just to draw more audience to the theatres needs to be curbed. He said, "In India, the deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings may attract legal scrutiny under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Precedents such as Azhar Basha Tamboli vs Ravi S Gupta & Ors and Hum Do Humare Baraah underscore the sensitive balance between freedom of expression and the protection of religious sentiments."

He further added, "Additionally, the CBFC, established under the Cinematograph Act, 1952, is entrusted with certifying films while taking into account both artistic expression and respect for religious feelings."

The letter further added that the church is a sacred place of worship for Christians, and it should not be depicted as a stage for indecent content. The letter further added, "This portrayal not only disrespects the spiritual sanctity of the religious place of worship but also deeply offends the sensibilities of the Catholic community."

The group also questioned the CBFC`s clearance of the scene, while warning of public protests if the makers di to remove the scene from the film. Additionally, the letter also demanded the immediate filing of an FIR against the producer, director and actors of the film under BNS for deliberately hurting the sentiments of the Catholic community.

Param Sundari trailer

Param Sundari has been directed by Tushar Jalota while being produced by Dinesh Vijan. The makers recently dropped the trailer of the film, which is set against the beautiful backdrop of Kerala. The trailer showed the uniqueness of the two cultures amid the monsoon-clad roads, backwater bike rides, and centuries-old churches in the state.

The Param Sundari trailer shows a fun romantic comedy as a Delhi boy, played by Sidharth, falls for a Kerala girl, played by Janhvi. The two come from two completely different worlds, and their cultural clash leads to some fun moments. The trailer further shows some basic differences in their life philosophies. Sharing the trailer of the much-awaited drama, the makers Maddock Films wrote, "Dilli ka munda Param is bringing full-on Punjabiyon ka swag aur siyappa to Sundari`s God`s Own Country! The biggest love story of the year #ParamSundari... Presented by Dinesh Vijan, directed by Tushar Jalota, in cinemas on 29th August. #ParamSundari Trailer Out Now!"
