BMC Elections 2025: BJP must aim to secure the mayor’s post, says Amit Shah

During his two-day visit to Mumbai, Union Home Minister Amit Shah discussed the organisational preparations for the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections with selected leaders from the state and Mumbai. State BJP President Ravindra Chavan, Mumbai BJP President Ameet Satam, Ashish Shelar, Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, and other leaders were present at the meeting.

In the state, the Mahayuti alliance is currently in power. Amit Shah instructed BJP leaders from Maharashtra and Mumbai to contest BMC elections in alliance wherever possible, including in Mumbai. However, he emphasised that the BJP must aim to secure the mayor’s post and win the maximum number of seats. Shah directed party leaders to finalise seat-sharing and election strategy accordingly.

He also provided guidance on how to oust the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena from power in the civic body  and ensure that a BJP mayor takes office. Shah discussed organisational planning, electoral strategy, and overall preparedness needed to achieve this goal.
