Zubeen Garg`s manager Siddhartha Sarma issues statement; summoned by SIT

Zubeen Garg’s tragic death sent waves of shock in the country. Days after his demise, Garg’s manager Siddhartha Sharma has issued a statement clearing the air around the ownership of the singer’s vast catalogue and earnings from his creative work. A Special Investigation Team (SIT), which recently raided the manager’s home as part of an ongoing investigation into the death, has now summoned Sarma along with 12 others in the case.

Siddhartha Sarma issues statement

Amid the difficult times, Sarma wrote an open letter, wherein he revealed that the majority of Garg’s 38,000 recorded songs are owned by various production houses and companies. Siddhartha Sharma wrote, “Almost all of Zubeen da’s songs, even the biggest blockbusters, were done before I entered his life. He often lamented how he was shortchanged, with producers and labels earning crores while he received only modest payments. This can be verified with those companies directly.”

In 2021, Zubeen Garg started his ownership over some of his later works by establishing Zubeen Garg Music LLP. In this business entity, Sarma was a partner. He continued, “The LLP has generated only a few thousand rupees monthly so far. The entire amount remains in the company account, with no withdrawals. Zubeen da owned 60 per cent of the firm, and I consider it my duty to ensure that his family rightfully inherits this stake.”

Denying all the allegations regarding the exploitation of Zubeen’s trust or finances, he added, “These rumours are baseless and deeply hurtful. I have cooperated with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing his death and will continue to do so."

Sharma further concluded, “This is a request from one human being to another. Let the investigation proceed without fear or prejudice. We owe it to Zubeen da’s memory to pursue truth with dignity.”

Siddhartha Sarma summoned by SIT

As per a NDTV report, Sarma has been asked to appear before the officials on October 6. Along with Sarma, summons have also been issued to Shyamkanu Mahanta, who organised the Northeast India Festival in Singapore.

The report furtehr claimed that nearly a ‘dozen other people’ from Assam have also been summoned by the SIT in the case. These include the people who went with Zubeen on the yacht. They have been asked to appear for questioning on October 6.
