While talking to E Times, Suniel spoke about strong reactions when his son was targeted by trolls and negative publicity in the past. He said that although he maintains a hands-off approach when it comes to Ahan’s career choices, he made it clear that personal attacks will not be tolerated. He said, “I will not let go. I will take you on. I will take you on the way you want me to take you on, because I am clean and honest and also fearless," calling himself an old-school Shetty boy.
Earlier at the Border 2 event, Suniel had acknowledged that Ahan went through a tough phase after his debut film, Tadap, failed. “After his first film, there was a little break in his life and career," Suniel shared. He also addressed the notion that star kids get easy opportunities, saying, “Sab bolte hain ke Suniel Shetty ka beta hai, kaam toh bahut hi milta hai. But somewhere or the other, there’s a lot that Ahan went through in life."

Suniel also explained why he got teary-eyed during the Border 2 song launch, explaining that the father in him took over and that in that moment he did not feel the need to hide his emotions. “When it comes to your children, I think parents are most vulnerable and become a completely different person," he said.
He further recalled the overwhelming moment when Ahan placed his hand on his back during the event. For Suniel, that simple gesture triggered his emotions. “I don’t mind being emotional in front of my children. That’s who I really am," he added.
