Mumbai: 3,601 Objections Filed on BMC’s Draft Voter List Ahead of Civic Elections
In the run-up to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) local body elections, a total of 3,601 objections and suggestions have been registered on the corporation’s website.
Voters, political parties, and aspiring candidates are closely watching to see what final decisions will be taken based on these objections.
The draft voter list for the upcoming BMC elections was published on November 20. Objections and suggestions can be submitted until December 3, after which the final voter list will be released on December 10.
Municipal Commissioner and District Election Officer Bhushan Gagrani has instructed officials to carefully review every objection and suggestion submitted by citizens. Duplicate names and omitted names have been highlighted in the voter list. Due to allegations and counter-allegations of voter fraud, this year’s voter list has drawn heightened attention.
Between November 20 and 30, BMC received 3,601 objections and suggestions across all wards. Earlier, between November 20 and 25, a total of 769 objections were filed, with the highest numbers coming from M-East Ward (204) and T Ward (123).
Subsequent daily submissions were as follows:
Nov 26: 1,371
Nov 27: 668
Nov 28: 362
Nov 29: 373
Nov 30: 58
The final day to submit objections and suggestions is December 3.
