Aamir Khan in ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’
Superstar Aamir Khan has disclosed that his latest film Sitaare Zameen Par was made on a budget of about R122 crore, rising from an initial R96 crore after he bought out a partner who opposed his decision to reject lucrative OTT deals. Speaking on Matthew Belloni’s podcast, The Town, Aamir admitted he is yet to recover the investment, saying, “I hope that I make the money back, and right now both YouTube and I are separately promoting it on the platform.” The actor revealed the pay-per-view release on YouTube has exceeded expectations, with separate budgets allocated for theatrical and digital runs. Industry analyst Komal Nahta claimed Prime Video had offered Rs 120 crore, which Aamir turned down. Directed by RS Prasanna, the movie has earned approximately Rs 276 crore at the worldwide box-office so far. “It [pay-per-view model] is a great opportunity for indie filmmakers who don’t get distribution in theatres,” Aamir concluded.
