Coolie vs War 2: Aamir Khan`s team clarifies he is not involved in distribution

The stage is set for one of the biggest box office clashes of the year- War 2 and Coolie. While both films cater to audiences of different languages, the battle to get maximum screens is ongoing. War 2 stars Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR in the lead, while Coolie marks the collaboration between Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj, along with cameos by Aamir Khan and Nagarjuna. Earlier, it was reported that Aamir Khan had intervened in the distribution of Coolie to ensure it gets maximum screens across the country.

Aamir Khan`s team issues clarification

However, Aamir Khan’s team has now dismissed reports of the superstar’s involvement in the distribution of the Rajinikanth-starrer. His team said that he has done the cameo out of goodwill and respect for the makers.

A spokesperson of Aamir Khan Productions clarified, “Neither Aamir Khan nor anyone from his team is involved in the distribution of Coolie. Mr. Khan has not made any calls to any exhibitor or distributor. His cameo in the film is purely a gesture of his bond with director Lokesh Kanagaraj and Rajinikanth. Everyone at AKP, especially Aamir Khan, is thrilled with the success of Sitaare Zameen Par’s YouTube release and is overjoyed with the response it has received.”

The distribution game

Earlier, Bollywood Hungama had reported that Aamir Khan had called PVR-Inox boss Ajay Bijli directly, aggressively requesting premium showcasing for Coolie across the country and had even pushed the multiplex chain to do a marketing tie-up with the Rajinikanth-starrer in North India. The call reportedly left the PVR-Inox team stunned. “Aamir has no financial stake in Coolie. This wasn’t expected,” a source told the entertainment portal.

The reports also indicated that Khan’s alleged involvement in the film’s distribution and his move against YRF’s War 2 had set the stage for an intense box office battle. However, Khan’s team has now put these reports to rest, confirming that the actor is not getting involved in the screen distribution of either Coolie or War 2.

About Coolie vs War 2 

Both films will be released in theatres on August 14, coinciding with Independence Day. War 2 is part of the spy universe created by YRF and will see the introduction of Jr NTR and Kiara Advani. On the other hand, Coolie has been hyped up because of director Lokesh Kanagaraj and his enviable track record.
