After Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan moves Delhi High Court

Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan on Wednesday urged the Delhi High Court to protect his publicity and personality rights, and to restrain websites and platforms from using his image, likeness, persona and fake videos, including sexually explicit material. He files a plea just a day after Aishwarya Rai seeked protection of her personality rights.
Abhishek Bachchan moves High Court
The actor has requested the Court to restrain websites and online platforms from misusing his image, likeness, persona, and voice, particularly in fake and sexually explicit content. Justice Tejas Karia, before whom the petition came up today, said the Court would pass an order on Bachchan`s plea. Justice Tejas Karia asked the counsel for Bachchan to answer the queries raised by the court and said the matter would be heard at 2:30 pm. The judge recorded the note submitted by his legal team regarding the defendant entities against whom relief was sought. "We will pass an order," Justice Karia observed.
Advocate Pravin Anand, representing Bachchan, said the defendants are creating AI-generated videos of the actor and creating fake photos signed by him and also sexually explicit material. The petition also invokes Section 38B of the Copyright Act, 1957, claiming violation of the actor`s moral rights in his performances. Bachchan argued that these distorted clips not only exploit his work but also bring him into disrepute by making him the subject of unsavoury humour and false rumours.
Justice Karia indicated that platforms like Google could be directed to remove infringing content if the plaintiffs provided URL-specific details. "We can ask Google to take down. But you have to give a URL specific to each defendant. YouTube, Amazon, and Flipkart are mentioned in the petition, but this order cannot be granted generally. It has to be divided defendant-wise," the judge said.
Aishwarya Rai seeks protection of personality rights
The development comes just a day after Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek`s wife and acclaimed Bollywood actor, moved the Delhi High Court with a similar plea to safeguard her personality rights.
She raised serious concerns about the unauthorised commercial and digital misuse of her name, photographs, and public persona. Justice Tejas Karia, who is also hearing her matter, signalled intent to issue injunctions to curb the misuse and has scheduled the case for further proceedings on January 15, 2026.
In a disturbing disclosure, Sethi told the Court that obscene, morphed, and AI-generated images of Rai were circulating online, describing the misuse of her likeness for sexually explicit content as "grossly violative" of her dignity.
On the work front, Abhishek will next be seen in Siddharth Anand’s King which stars Shah Rukh Khan, Suhana Khan, Arshad Warsi, Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji and several others. It will release in 2027 and currently an extensive action sequence shoot is underway.
