150 tourists from Maharashtra are stranded in Nepal; Maximum number of 65 tourists are from Thane district


In India's neighbouring Nepal, 150 tourists from the state are stranded in the violent protests that have been going on for two days against the government as 'Gen Z' youth took to the streets. The State Disaster Management Cell has informed that the maximum number of tourists, 65, are from Thane district and all the tourists are safe.

The 150 tourists from Maharashtra stranded in Nepal include 65 from Thane district, 5 from Pune, 6 from Mumbai, 10 from Akola, 1 from Yavatmal, 2 from Latur, and one from Kolhapur district. The information about the remaining tourists' districts has not been received. Tourists from the state had gone to Nepal for tourism through 6 tour operators. All the tourists are staying in hotels due to the suspension of air and road traffic in Nepal. Eleven tourists from Beed district have safely reached Uttar Pradesh by bus.

The 12 tourists are Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims and are currently stranded in Kurang province near the China border. 'Stay where you are. Don't step out of the hotel.' The Indian Embassy has appealed to Indian tourists to follow the instructions of the local administration. Air services in Nepal are likely to resume by Friday. After that, it will be possible to bring the tourists safely. ‘The number of tourists in the state is likely to increase,’ informed Dr. Bhalchandra Chavan, Director of the State Disaster Management Cell.

Tourists from the state are staying in hotels in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Purang, and the state government is in touch with them. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has informed that the state government is in touch with the Indian Embassy in Nepal through the Union Ministry of External Affairs and Maharashtra Sadan and efforts are underway to provide assistance to tourists in the state.

The State Emergency Operations Center is taking all necessary measures for the safety of the citizens of Maharashtra and has appealed to the public to obtain information only through official media and to stay away from rumors.
