Asrani death: Sholay actor’s two films with Akshay Kumar to release in 2026

On Monday, we learned with sadness that legendary actor Asrani had died. The 84-year-old performer has made us laugh out loud in over 300 flicks. While he is no longer alive, we shall get to see him in two major films in 2026: Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan. Akshay Kumar, who has collaborated with him on numerous occasions, took to Twitter to announce that Asrani will appear in two unreleased films, Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan.
Akshay Kumar pens an emotional note
Akshay tweeted: "Speechless with grief at the passing of Asrani ji. We had just shared the warmest of hugs just a week back at the shoot of Haiwaan. Bahot pyare insaan the…he had the most legendary comic timing. From all my cult films Hera Pheri to Bhagam Bhag to De Dana Dan, Welcome and now our unreleased Bhoot Bangla and Haiwaan…"
"I had worked and learned so much from him. What an absolute loss to our industry. God bless you Asrani Sir, for giving us a million reasons to laugh. Om Shanti," he further wrote.
Priyadarshan directed the films Hera Pheri, Bhagam Bhag, and De Dana Dan, as well as Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan.
Asrani was recognised for his incredible comic timing, and now we can`t wait to see him in Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan. The former is set to be released on April 2, 2026, while the latter has yet to be formally confirmed.
CM Devendra Fadnavis and PM Modi penned a heartfelt note
Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, also took to his social media handle to mourn the demise of Asrani. He tweeted, "Deeply saddened by the demise of the legendary actor Govardhan Asrani ji. His unmatched versatility and unique sense of humor brought joy and laughter to millions. From the iconic jailer in Sholay to memorable roles in Chupke Chupke, Golmaal, Aap Ki Kasam, Abhimaan, Baton Baton Mein, Chhoti Si Baat, Dhamaal, and many more, his performances have left an indelible mark on Indian cinema. My humble tributes to him and deepest condolences to his family and millions of fans. Om Shanti (sic)."
PM Modi also penned a heartfelt condolences note for Asrani, he wrote, "Deeply saddened by the passing of Shri Govardhan Asrani Ji. A gifted entertainer and a truly versatile artist, he entertained audiences across generations. He particularly added joy and laughter to countless lives through his unforgettable performances. His contribution to Indian cinema will always be cherished. My condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti."
