After Hijab, jeans and t-shirt banned in Mumbai's college
When the students went to Acharya College in Chembur, Mumbai on Monday, they were in for a shock. Because many children were stopped from wearing jeans and t-shirts. When the boys asked why, they were told that jeans-t-shirts were banned. On June 26, the Bombay High Court had ruled that the ban imposed by NG College in Chembur was correct. After that, both jeans and t-shirts have been banned in this college.What has the college said?The dress code rule has been enforced since June 27. According to which ripped jeans, t-shirts, revealing clothes, and jerseys are prohibited. The notice, signed by the principal, specifies that students should wear formal attire in the college premises. Half shirt, full shirt and pants are not prohibited. Girls can wear any Indian dress. No one should wear any dress that shows religion. Atiq Khan said that the college had banned hijab, niqab and similar attire last year. Now they have banned jeans and t-shirts. Jeans t-shirts are not worn by people of certain religions. People of all religions wear this type of dress. Banning it is impractical. Atiq Khan also said that a ban on wearing jeans-t-shirts is being imposed in the name of dress code.What has the principal of the college Dr. Lele said?“We are preparing students for the corporate world. So we want students to dress decently. We have not imposed any uniform on them. Only they are asked to wear formals. They can be anything Indian or Western. After college life, when they go for jobs, they will have to wear similar clothes.Dr Lele also said that, “We informed the students about the dress code at the time of admission. Why are students now asking questions or expressing concern about this? Out of 365 days of the year, students attend college for 120 to 130 days. What is the problem with them following the dress code these days?”.What is the case of mask ban?Nine female students approached the High Court against the ban imposed by NG College. The petitioner student said that the rule laid down by the college violates our right to practice our religion, right to privacy and right to choose. It is arbitrary for the college to impose this rule. Also, these girls had said in the petition that this rule is unreasonable and wrong in terms of law. It was also claimed in the petition that this rule is perverse. But this petition was rejected by the Bombay High Court last week.
